The Broad Street congregation has been meeting and working in Statesville since 1955. Our past preachers include;… Though the congregation at Statesville has only been in existence for a short period of time, the church of Christ has been in existence since (about) A.D. 3O. Jesus promised that the church (kingdom of God) would come in the first century, “And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power” (Mark 9:1). In Matthew 16:18, 19 Jesus here used two terms synonymously, His church and the kingdom of heaven. Through these two sections of scripture it can be known that the church was in the mind of Christ and it was to be established in that generation. When would these things occur? “…Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem” (Luke 24:46-47). The apostles were also instructed (verse 49) to stay at Jerusalem until they received power from on high. In Acts chapter 2, the apostles are found in Jerusalem, they had recieved power from the Holy Spirit and Peter preached an outstanding sermon. This sermon persuaded some that had listened to see a need of salvation. “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). Peter provided them with God’s plan of salvation, “…repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). This teaching was distinctive and is still being taught at Broad Street.Nothing that we do is secretive, our only manual, creed and doctrine is found in the New Testament. Do you have questions?
